  1. In both revolutions, one of the most important factors is the Enlightenment and the effect it had on the world. The Haitians and Latin American countries looked around them and saw all these countries breaking free of their oppressors and becoming new countries of their own choosing and they really liked the idea of that. They had access to American, French, and other writings discussing the Enlightenment and how they established their own freedom and the Haitians and Latin America’s wanted to be free. I believe that’s the biggest factor in affecting leaders, followers, and the entire revolution of Haiti and Latin America.

    • That is true that the enlightenment was an influential factor for the leaders of the revolutions since another revolutionary figure, Hildago, believed in the ideals of the enlightenment.

    • This is greatly true. I agree with all your notions. The intellectual changes that occurred prior to these revolutions had a heavy impact on both the Haitian and Latin American Revolutions. Before these new ideas came about, the establishments of these lands and their order were set for hundreds of years. Change would and could not have happened without the influence of the Enlightenment and ideas to inspire revolt and changes.

    • I agree entirely. The Haitian and Latin American people were tired of being oppressed and wanted a change in government to be able to change. The leaders of these revolutions each wanted a change that did come from the French and American Revolutions.

  2. The most influential outside factor which contributed to the revolutions in Haiti and Latin America where the revolutions of the parent countries. The Haitians were inspired by the revolutionaries in France who were fighting for a just social structure. The Haitians saw this as their opportunity to fight for their own freedom and gain equality.

    • I agree with your statment, the inspiration of Haitai governent and revolt directly came from France and America

      • The most important outside factor that affected the Haitian and Latin American revolutionary movements was the success of past revolutionary movements. The French and American Revolutions come to mind because both were successful and highly popularized. The Haitians and the Latin Americans saw these revolts, and realized that they could break themselves free from the oppressiveness of Spain. Once they realized that those revolts were effective, they launched their own similar revolts. They both did not want to be known as weak, submissive colonies that only survived when Spain wanted them to.

        • The most influential outside action that affected the Haitian and Latin American independence movements were the outcomes and successes of past independent and revolutionary movements. The French and American Revolution are two examples because it was an example of how you can break away from a power source that controls them. It also gave the ideas of enlightenment which were core ideals of many revolutions following the French Revolution.

        • I agree that once the Haitians and Latin Americans saw the success of the independence of the Americans they were influenced as well.

    • I agree with claim. The revolutions did help influence other countries. The neighboring revolutions motivated Haitian and Latin America to rebirth their society in hope for a better and more substantial country.

    • I agree that the most important outside factor was revolutions in the parent countries. Along with giving the Haitians inspiration, the internal conflict also diverted attention away from the revolution and weakened France, which made the revolution simpler for the Haitians

    • I agree but i aslo believe that tge enlightenment was a major part or outside factor that had the most influence.

    • I agree with your claim. The other revolutions did help motivate the Haitians in their revolutions.

    • I definitely can agree that because of the parent revolutions in countries like France, places like Haiti would begin to think for social reforms.

    • I agree with your view of the other evolutions, they played a huge part in inspiring the countries and making them see that it is possible to change a country for the better. It helped them to decide to revolt.

  3. The extended and outside factor that has influnced and cause the biggest impact in haiti slaves going in revolution is the insipration of the superpowers and parent countires going througt the same proccess. Haiti slaves saw how the french were able to break their goverment and create a new rule, haitai realizes that they had to do the same actions in order to have a better life and freedom. With inspitation from the US and the american revoltuion, creating a fair and equal system of goverment for the people, Haitai took similar plans in order to create a balacne goverment. These revolutoons are importance as they lay the foundadtion for the haitais to revolt as well as set up their goverment the same way as the french and the americans

    • While I agree that the Haitians took huge inspiration from the American and French Revolutions, I’m not sure if they tried to exactly model their styles of government, especially since France and America had very different governments at the time.

      • I disagree with the fact that they didn’t want to model the other countries. The new, revolting countries wished to become a democracy, at least in some part, and wanted to become more westernized in general.

  4. The most influencial outside force were the Europeans. The Europeans wanted to colonize the pacific islands as well as Latin America. The Europeans affected these countries by the slave trade as well. The Europeans brought new diseases the natives weren’t familiar with, they attempted to colonize both countries and the Europeans changed the way the natives spoke and who or what they worshipped. During the Colombian Exchange, disease was the main deadly item, Europeans brought livestock and food. The Europeans helped Latin America and Haitian become more colonized but killed off many in the process.

    • I agree with you that the Europeans also played a major role in inspiring and influencing the Haitians and Latin Americans

    • I agree, the Europeans did really accelerate colonization by helping establish infrastructure in the fractured Latin America’s. You have a really good point with the diseases, that also probably helped give them a reason to revolt against the Europeans.

    • I agree but i aslo believe that the enlightenment was a major part or outside factor that had the most influence.

  5. The most influential factor enfluencing the Haitian and Latin were all of the other revolutions occurring around them and around the world in general in this time period. The French Revolution was huge and so was the American Revolution which helped inspiration the Haitian that they too could fight for what they want and actually make a change.

    • I agree with you because the people of Latin America and Haiti saw similarities between them and the revolutionaries of America and France.

    • I could also agree on that the French Revolution was the reason for inspiring and motivating the Haitian people to fight for what they wanted.

    • What you said was correct, and I believe that the revolutions occurring around them played a huge role in causing the revolutions.

    • I agree with your statement on the French Revolution because it caused a chain reaction across the word, including America. This also led to France becoming more centralized. Which was adapted by Latin America.

    • I agree that the other revolutions occuring at this time were a huge factor in inspiring the Haitian and Latin American revolutions. The French and the American revolutions were the biggest of these outside revolts.

    • I agree that the most influencial factor was the other revolutions that sparked the idea of freedom within the haitians and latin revolutionists

  6. The most important factor was the enlightenment because it was about ending monarchies which the Latin and South American countries were under, even though the Monarchs were on the other side of the ocean. It also was an important factor because it encouraged the common population to think for themselves and not to take the current system for granted because there might be a better one.

    • I agree that the enlightened was a major outside factor that lead to these revolutions because people started to think more about themselves and wanting to make their own life better.

    • I agree and disagree with your statement, yes the engliment era made people want natural right and freedom, however without the french and american revolutions happening, they would not be inspired to become a freed state

    • I agree with you about the enlightenment playing a major role in inspirating both the Haitian and Latin Revolutions.

    • I agree with your saying that the Enlightenment was a major factor in both revolutions because of it also following the idea to end monarchies, but I believe the American Revolution and French Revolution were the most influential because of San Martin and Toussaint L’Ouverture.

    • I agree with this statement because, due to the influence of other countries revolting to fight for a new government, did influence the other Latin American countries to revolt and fight for their own change in government..

    • I agree, though I also think about enlightenment along with this as it inspired the revolution as well.

  7. The most important outside influence for the Haitians and Latin America was the revolutions of the parent countries. Haitians saw the French break free from their government so that influenced them. This allowed them to fight for their social structure.

    • I agree with what you said because the French revolution showed the Haitians that a revolution would be successful and would gove them their rights back. Another cause would also be mistreatment.

    • I agree, the fact that others fought and won their independence really showed these colonies that they could fight and win a better life.

    • While i agree that the french revolution played an important factor, i beleive the american revolution played a bigger part because the goal the wanted to acheive, which was freedom and not a different political structure

  8. The most influential outside force that inspired the leaders of these movements where other revolutions such as the French and the American revolution. The leaders of the Haitian and Latin America revolution saw the outcome of these revolution and wanted that for their own countries to make them a better place for their people.

  9. The most important outside factor in both the Haitian and Latin American independence movements was the other revolutions happening at the same time. This gave inspiration for the leaders of the Haitian and Latin American independence movements. It also weakened the countries they were trying to become independent of. Together, this gave the countries enough strength to gain their independence.

  10. The most influential outside factors that helped promote the Haitian and Latin Revolutions were the previous successful revolutions in the United States and France. Due to their enlightenment thinkers like Voltaire and Rousseau, their revolutions were key for setting an example for revolutionary goals. Therefore, with France and the U.S. as examples of how successful one’s country can be through unity, the Haitian and Latin American revolutions would be able to easily follow suit. Uniting their people towards the movement of independence.

    • I didn’t consider the Enlightenment when thinking about the French and American revolutions, but these philosophes ideas definitely influenced many revolutions.

    • The most influential factor for the Haitian and Latin American revolutions in my opinion is definitely the French and American revolutions that occurred before these revolutions. When the people in Latin America and Haiti heard of the success of those who fought for independence in France and America, they were greatly influenced and inspired to fight for their own independence. They realized that they were being treated poorly and were tired of being ruled over, so they fought for their independence just like the Americans and French did previously.

  11. One of the most influential outside factors of the two revolutions were the revolutions that had come before them. Both Haiti and Latin America took huge inspirations from the achievements of the French and Americans, and looked especially to America because they had been in the same situation they were in. Latin America even took inspiration from Haiti’s success, since it was closest geographically and in circumstance to theirs.

    • Nicely put! The Enlighentment was a huge part in the revolution and I didn’t really think about how Haiti’s success impacted the nearby colonies.

  12. The most influential outside factor was the French Revolution which opened the eyes of many minorities to realize that they were worth more than their treatment. During the French Revolution, the proletariat class began to notice the social contract and three laws by Adam Smith. This caused them to realize that a monarchy gave the king too much power that was not deserved. Similar to the french, Spanish colonies reaized that Europe had too much control that was not deserved. This caused recolts throughout Latin America which led to independence.

  13. These 2 countries wanted to revolt because of the enlightenment. As other countries were revolting and becoming free the Latin Americans and Haitians wanted to be free and revolt as well. The access to these enlightenment documents they had promoted that.

  14. Both the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements were greatly influenced by the prior revolution a, such as the French and the American Revolution. These greatly influenced the Movements because they showed people that it was possible to make changes in the problems. More specifically though, the Englightment had the greatest impact on all of these revolutions, as it inspired a new sense of freedom and individuality that was necessary for the inspiration of the movements.

    • I agree that Latin America and Haitian gained independence because of the results of the French and American Revolution. They were able to gain independence and revolt for better culture. After the Latin Americans saw this they were enlightened and wanted to gain independence as well. I also agree that the Enlightment had a large on their reason behind attempting to gain freedom

  15. One of the factors of the revolutions are social movements like Enlightenment because the people of those countries realized that they were being oppressed and decided to revolt.

    • I believe Latin Americans also took some inspiration from past revolutions that occurred previously such as the ones in France and America as they provided them with successful methods to use in their own protests

  16. In both movements, the leaders of each were heavily influenced by other movements for freedom outside of their country. They were influenced by the revolutions in France, seeing the freedom achieved in France they saw their oppourtunity to ontain this same self government and freedom. On top of this I tweaked the countries they were trying to gain independence from. The enlightenment beliefs at the time combined with revolutions already occurred led to the Haitians and Latin Americans quest for independece.

    • I agree. If the revolutions in North America and France didn’t happen then there wouldn’t have been anything to motivate the Haitian and Latin American revolutions.

  17. What heavily impacted both the Haitian Revolution and the Latin American Revolutions was undoubtedly the ideas of the intellectual movements that occurred prior to such. The enlightenment explored new ideas that inspired leaders such as Hidalgo. These new ideas enacted for the inspiration to make changes and revolt. Without these ideas as well as the inspiration from the French and American Revolution.

  18. The most influential outside factor would have to be the Europeans. They had colonies all around the world included some in Latin America. The Europeans had influence in many countries affecting how the cultures and economy would change in world.

  19. The most influential outside factor to the Latin American and Haitian Revolution was the Revolution that come in the same hemisphere the American revolution. The American revolution set the pinnacle for what a society could do to defy a colonial power and or a ruling class.

  20. The most important outside force in my opinion were the other revolutions happening during the same time because it inspired other revolutions to strengthen there movements and gain new independence.

    • One the biggest factors of the movements of independence was the enlightenment and the revolutions combined. Enlightment ideals has passed through the world and hearing about the revolutions caused countries to act like latin america. Hidalgo had acted to gain independence from the spaniards in the mexican area.

      • I completely agree. Both the French and American revolutions had great impacts on the movements of the Latin American Revolution alongside ideas of the Enlightenment to influence the strive for independence.

  21. The most important outside factor that inspired the leaders of the Haitian and Latin American revolutions for independence was the model example of freedom and singularity that America had presented. Leaders modeled their revolutionary ideologies based off the American and French Revolutions and were inspired to lead a movement that lead their people to attain the same independence.

    • I agree that theses revolutions were influenced by outside factors. The Haitian and Latin Americans needed to see their mistreatment and how they could free them self’s and gain freedom for their countries.

  22. I believe that they were most influenced by the revolutions happening in that area at the time, such as in France.

  23. Two of the most influencial outside factors of the revolutions were the enlightenment and the previous revolutions that other countries did. The previous revolutions played a big factor because the Haitians and the Latin Americans saw and read about these revolutions and saw the independence they gained and mimicked it. That was a big factor in the two revolutions

    • I agree with your comment, Nick. The Enlightenment ideals and the previous revolutions in France and American influenced the Latin and Haitian Revolutions in a massive way. They saw the success of previous revolutions and realized they could succeed as well by doing the same.

  24. In both the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements, there were influences from outside forces. The most important outside factor was the American and French Revolutions. Because of the past successes of these two revolutions, the Haitians and other Latin American countries wanted to do the same. Bolivar was one of the leaders in these revolutions and he saw the government structure of the Americans with democracy and wanted to do the same. Also in the French Revolution the enlightenment was a factor of the revolutions in the Latin and Haitian Independence movements.

    • Yes the prior revolutions did influence the Haitian and Latin rise this combined with enlightenment ideals were the main causes for revolts

    • I agree and also believe tgat the Enlightenment was one of the most influential factor in the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements.

  25. One of the biggest factors that influenced these Haitian and Latin American movements was the idea of enlightenment. There were many countries “breaking free” of monarchs, and dictators at this time, and they felt they could do the same, and become an independent, self-governing nation.

    • I agree with your comment, Arjun. The Enlightenment and its ideals greatly influenced these Latin American and Haitian revolutions. These countries were tired of being controlled and ruled unfairly and clearly wanted to become independent, which aligns with Enlightenment ideals.

  26. The two revolutions that happened before were probably the most important outside factors, because the Haitians got ideas and were aware of what to do since it very much influenced them, but looked more into the American revolution since they were pretty much almost in the same situation.

  27. The most important outside factor for these revolutions was the outside ideas brought upon by the enlightenment and prior industrialization

  28. I agree that the French Revolution inspired and influenced the Haitians. The idea of wanting to break free was a major factor in both revolutions.

  29. The one of the most important event levthat impacted the Haitian revolution was the enlightenment. It changed ideals and inspired them. The second is the Revolutions that came before, it inspired them, and they ended up mimicking it.

    • Many of the Revolutionary were influenced by utter revolutions, which were influences from outside forces. The most important outside factor was the American and French Revolutions because they were so successful. Because if that, he Haitians and other Latin American countries wanted to do the same thing since they err tired of being ruled over. Bolivar was one of the leaders in these revolutions and he saw the government structure America and wanted to do the same. As for the French Revolution, the enlightenment was a factor of the revolutions in the Latin and Haitian independence.

    • I think that the Revolutions were more important because nothing would have helappened and the world as we know it would not be the same. However, I do think the enlightenment movement was very important as well.

  30. For both revolutions, they tried to follow the way the American Revolution occurred and resulted in. San Martin, an important leader in the Latin Revolution actually wanted South America to look and be governed the same as the USA. The Haitian Revolution was more aimed for freedom and rights rather than political power.

  31. I beliebe that the most important outside factor was the Enlightenment and other revolutions of different countries. The French and American Revolutions greatly inspired the Latin American and Haitian independence movements. Slaves and peasants revolted which led to an outcry for freedom. They also wanted more political freedom and representation. Leaders rose to lead the revolts and the revolutions. It changed the perspective of the country and its culture through the gain of independence

  32. An important outside factor to the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements were the ocurance of other revolutions and independence movements around the world. Movements like the American and French Revolution inspired leaders to revolt for a cause and hey also showed a possible better life that was worth fighting and supporting for.

    • The most influential factor to the Latin American and Latin independence movements were the revolutions that took place. There were slave and peasant revolts for their freedom. Political revolts took place. It changed how their independence was.

    • I agree. The revolutions of the world did inspire the change in both Latin America and Haitian independence movements. They did give light on how and what to do for a revolution.

  33. The most influential outside factor which contributed to the revolutions in Haiti and Latin America where the revolutions of close by countries and the success of their revolutions and post revolution goverment. The Haitians were inspired by the revolutionaries in France who fought for a fair social class ranking and The Haitians saw this as their opportunity to fight for their own freedom and gain equality. They also saw the American Revolution.

  34. The Haitians and Latin American countries were highly influenced by both the French and American Revolutions. The ideas from the enlightenment was also an influence.

    • I agree, because the revolutions that occurred during that time period when the Haitians were in a similar situation, gave them ideas of how to fight back.

    • I agree that both revolutions had influenced the Haitian and Latin revolutions by inspiring the ideas for change and freedom from oppression.

  35. An outside influence that moved the Haitian and Latin independence movements was the American Revolution and French Revolution. Bolivar was inspired by George Washington taking the colonies but not assuming full control. The Haitian revolution was spurred due to the French Revolution political struggle having impact on sugar farmers in Haitia.

    • I also agree that these revolutions were influenced by outsiders such as leaders and countries. Precious revolutions and their outcomes sparked the Haitian and Latin revolutions.

  36. The most influential factor for the Haitian and Latin American revolutions in my opinion is definitely the French and American revolutions that occurred before these revolutions. When the people in Latin America and Haiti heard of the success of those who fought for independence in France and America, they were greatly influenced and inspired to fight for their own independence. They realized that they were being treated poorly and were tired of being ruled over, so they fought for their independence just like the Americans and French did previously.

  37. In my opinion, the most influential factors for the Haitian and Latin American Revolutions were others that happened before them. This includes both the French and American Revolutions. They were able to see the benefits of becoming free from their colonizers. They could recycle tactics and other things for means of success. They were influenced because they had realized that they didn’t have the best lives they could, causing them to follow in the footsteps of the French and American people’s and fight for their freedom.

    • I agree that the American and French revolutions inspired the Haitian and Latin American revolutions due to the fact that they saw that they could revolt and even possibly gain independence.

  38. In both the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements outside factors influenced leaders, followers and entire movements. Which outside factor was the most important and why? Be specific with the outside factor and how it was used.

The Haitian and Latin American revolutions were mainly influenced by other successful revolutions in history. They were inspired by the success of the citizens of America and France protesting their own government for equal rights and better opportunities. Latin Americans borrowed some of their techniques in order to gain the same freedoms. Bolivar, the leader of the independence movements in many countries, saw the citizens of other countries rebelling against the idea of monarchy and beginning to govern themselves and encouraged his people to fight for the same.

  39. In both the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements the most influential outside factors were the previous revolutions in France and North America. The Haitian and Latin American revolution leaders saw how successful the previous revolutions in France and North America were and it motivated them to try to gain independence also.

  40. The most influential outside factor in both Haitian and Latin American Independence was the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment had inspired to make changes, freedom and causing revolt in the people. It inspired the new ideas that lead to the American and French Revolutions. Hidalgo was inspired by the idea of Enlightenment, being the mist influential factor affecting leaders, revolutions, change of ideas, and beliefs.

    • I agree that it caused the people to reconsider and realize that they should be free since the enlightenment inspired change.

    • i agree, the enlightenment inspired both latin america and haiti to have revolutions of their own.

  41. The most important outside factor was the French and American Revolution. Latin Americans and Haitians saw how others were able to achieve independence and it inspired them to make a movement. They were in a similar situation as the United States. Bolivar was a leader in these revolutions and he wanted a government structure just like the U.S. Both of these revolutions impacted leaders to make a change and gain their rights and independence.

    • I agree with your statement. Without the French and American Revolution the Latin American and Haitian revolution wouldn’t have had a model use.

    • I agree however the enlightenment really started to get people thinking about what society should be like for all and that maybe changes were necessary with thus lead to people questioning and starting revolutions when they realized the weren’t getting treated how they equally and justly deserved.

  42. I believe the main outside factor would be that minorities wanted their independence so badly, that they would join forces and rebel against those of the higher social hierarchy.

    • I agree with you but I think that Latin Americans were mainly inspired to fight for their freedoms by the success of the French and American revolutions.

    • I agree with you, they wanted a place in society so they took action to defeat the social hierarchy.

  43. The most important outside factor was the French and American revolutions as well as the enlightenment. This is because in Latin America they saw that they could revolt and possibly win. They also realized that as humans they have a right to be free and independent as a state. The Hatian revolution was upstarted by the enlightenment because slaves saw that as humans they should be treated equally not differently because of their geographical location.

    • I agree, they saw what was going on around them and were influenced by past revolutions and by ideas of what society should be like for all

  44. The major outside factors in both the Haitian and Latin American Independence movements were enlightment ideas and previous independence movements.

    • I agree because they both took ideas from other groups that started revolutions and then based their actions on what other people did as a defense. Ex. Haitians and the French’s revolution

  45. The most influential outside factor which contributed to the revolutions in Haiti and Latin America was the enlightenment which led to revolutions of other countries. The Haitians were inspired by the revolutionaries in France who were fighting for a fair social structure and the Haitians saw this as their opportunity to fight for themselves and thus the enlightenment provided ideas on what to fight for and began the questioning.

  46. The most important factor is achieving independence. They saw how others were gaining independence and inspired them to gain their own.

  47. One of the most important factors is Enlightenment and independence, they saw other rebellions gain independence from what they were doing and took action to seek it for themselves.

  48. The most important outside factor are the minorities seeking independence & then teaming up against the higher ups just to gain some attention. They used the ideas from other rebellions to fight.

  49. The most important factors that influenced the latin and haitian revolutions were the past revolutions. they saw how the success of them shaped the future and were inspired to have a movement of their own.
