Political Parties-Project

On April 27, 2020, in Assignments, by lwaddell

A political party is group of persons who seek to control government through the winning of elections and the holding of public office. In America there are many political parties. The two largest are the Democrats and Republicans.  For this activity you will be gathering information on political parties. You will need to select three issues, or planks from five different political parties. The planks can be anything that interests you, such as education, welfare, military spending, and taxes are just a few examples.

Requirements:

You will select three planks from five parties. The planks may be any topic that interests you.  You will create a visual representation of the planks from all five parties.  This can be a prezi, video, posters, or another form.  PowerPoint is not encouraged, think outside the box. It is highly encouraged that you use the Democrats and Republicans as two of your parties.  The other three are entirely up to you.

Here is a sample of political parties. This list is by no means the only parties that you may use. If you use a party that is not listed here you must include the web address in your paper.

Democratic National Committee
Republican National Committee
The Green Parties of North America

Read chapter 7. Pages 214-243
Ch 7 Lecture

Ch 7 Reading Assignment
Maureen Dowd

After reading answer the following questions.
1. Does Mrs. Dowd paint an accurate picture of the president?

2. Are her views bias?  If so, does she lean to the left or to the right of the political spectrum?

Ch 7 Mass Media Project Answer EITHER question 1 or 2.

To help gain an understanding of how the media may be biased, we will examine three sources; one liberal, one conservative, one moderate and see how they portray the president.  Be consistent with your theme.  One example would be the climate deal signed by the president.  You would look for that theme in all three of your sources.  This project will be due the next time class meets.
Procedure:
1. Find three editorials from three different sources that talk about  President Trump. There should be a liberal source, a conservative source and one independent source.  There are links at the bottom to assist your search.  Summarize in your own words how the editorials portray the president, what type of tone are they taking, and how could this editorial influence voter.

2. Find three political cartoons from three sources. These three sources need to be different than the three selected in question 1. The cartoons need to portray the President. The cartoons may be on any topic as long as the President is in the cartoon. Summarize each cartoon using the questions from question 1.

3. Analyze how the President is portrayed. Is the President popular? Is he well received in certain countries, but not others? Is there any general feelings that you can gather about the President?

Important Message about AP Exam

On April 1, 2020, in Information, by lwaddell

Hello AP Gov Testers and Families!

I am sure you’re heard by now that the AP Test will look very different this year! It will be 45 minutes online at home and only FRQs. I have been posting reviews and practices at mrwaddell.com/apreview so you can be 100% ready for it in May!

I need all of the students to take this very short survey about the AP Test regarding technology access by Thursday:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScbYBH95FXGwNR3CBQNV3QAaR_g9lpK33Fpiv4K5CQKfyQAaQ/viewform?usp=pp_url

If you no longer want to take the AP Test for any reason, they are issuing a full refund with no penalties! Please email Ms. Cassutt (rcassutt@tuhsd.k12.az.us) and she can help you with that process.

Make sure you can get into the AP Classroom and check out what materials have been released from last year’s test. I’ll have plenty more for you soon!

Hope everyone is healthy and staying busy – keep washing those hands!
