There are many ways that one learns about politics.  This unit is looking at how you gain this knowledge and how you use it.  In your groups answer the following questions.

  1. Discuss how the following impact your knowledge of politics. Which is the most important? Which is the least important?  Is there one or two that are not on the list?  If so, add them and discuss how they add or don’t add to your political knowledge.

  1. The media plays a large role in everyone’s life. Using State of The Union Address that took place on January 30, see how the following media outlets covered the speech. When looking at the outlets pay close attention to what they say about the terms in question 1.  Explain the view of each outlet, do you notice any bias?  Is there any outlet that you felt was unbiased?  Here is a transcript of the speech to use as a reference-State of the Union speech

The Washington Post

National Public Radio

Fox News

The Huffington Post

  1. One way to find out how people think about politics is to ask. In your group, come up with five questions that we could ask. You are creating a mini survey.  Here are several web sites that specialize in surveys.  You can also use these sites to look at the terms in question 1

Gallup Poll

Polling Report

Rasmussen Reports

The final product may be created using various formats.  You may use Word, Google slides, Google Docs, PowerPoint to name a few.  Be sure to answer each question fully, using complete sentences when necessary.  Each group should include no more than 4 people.
