  1. I believe that almost all of Donald Trumps promises he proposed to the citizens of the United States have been deemed as unfulfilled and empty. I do also believe however, it is and may be very hard to serve in such a generation as we are in right now do to the conflict in social media versus the voting gap and restrictions. Many older upper class whites predominantly voted in our last election and it has been seen that minorities have been most effected since Trump has been in office. I believe it is inevitable for Presidents to not fufil all promises made, but is of expectancy for most to be appointed and attempted rather than not at all. President Obama made a great impact of turning his promises into action such as ObamaCare.

    1. I believe that while the President has more powers over society than any other American, there is simply too many conflicts and issues for one person to solve over a period of time. I think that many people do have very high expectations since they take into consideration only the issues that they want to see resolved, rather than the thousands of different issues that other people struggle with. Since there are so many problems to deal with, I think that it would make more sense for the president to only promise on fixing those that are the most imperative, rather than going overboard and promising everything in order to gain more people’s approval. Unfulfilled promises tend to make the general public concerned with these issues upset, which can call for more uproar and chaos throughout the presidency. I do believe that President Obama set the expectations higher for his own presidency since he promised very many things and only completed some of them. However, this seems to be a trend throughout recent presidencies so most people should know that these promises aren’t always guaranteed.

    2. I agree that with our current society, it can be extremely difficult and basically impossible to please everyone and fullfill every single promise, which is why presidents should stop making so many promises that they will never be able to accomplish.

  2. I believe that President Donald Trumps statements and proposals are a bunch of lies. Based on the PolitiFact scoreboard Trump had 138 statements that were mostly false. He had made 224 that were false and 96 statements that were far from the truth. He has told more lies than truth. It’s good to propose things but follow through with them and do not take credit for something you never did. Of course we don’t expect that everything he says or everything every other president has said is going to be true or fulfilled. As people we understand the difficulty there is to fully complete every task. But what we do expect is that more truth is told than false claims. Barack Obama’s PolitiFact scoreboard was much better than Trumps in comparison. He made 70 statements that were mostly false 71 that were false and 9 that were way off from the truth. There were still errors on his end but this is not much compared to Donald Trump. I believe that one man or woman is capable of having the role of presidency even in our complex society. With that being said though there are high expectations for the President and not everyone’s expectations will be satisfied which is fine. The problem is if they are not coming close to expectations then there will be some major political problems.

    1. I feel like everything Trump says is a lie. He talks just to talk. But the one thing he is trying is to stand by is the wall. However , the other people in Congress don’t agree with Trumps decision and the wall . I feel like for the most part everything Obama said he was able to accomplish. He wanted to reform health care and did so with ObamaCare.

    2. I definitely agree with your statement that while proposing things is good, one should follow through on the promises they make.

      1. I agree with the role of our new president and I don’t believe he is doing what he should with being in the spotlight

      2. I believe this is very true. It is good to suggest an idea or maybe promise one, but do not make it unreachable. If you are not guaranteed to complete, at least you will be able to some what fulfill it because you set a somewhat reachable goal/promise.

    3. I agree with the statement in saying that as people we know that not everything could be fulfilled. It is true, but it’s ridiculous for Trump to claim that he is going to make America great when all he says are lies. He should not speak about what he wants to do, but rather speak about what he is actually capable of succeeding in.

  4. I do believe that expectations have exceeded reality when it comes to a person’s ability to govern, but I feel it is that way because some promises a person makes to get elected are so improbable that there is no way they could fulfill such a promise. An example of this is Trump’s wall, still having not been built a little over two years into his term. Expectations were likely increased during Obama’s presidency because he fulfilled numerous promises he had made.

    1. I agree with this. Expectations have risen because Obama set the bar when he fulfilled numerous promises he made like you said. Expectations will most likely rise overtime, making it more difficult maybe for future candidates who want to run and promise things to the people, and then leave with not many actually being completed.

  5. Most of Trumps campaign promises have been unfulfilled since he’s taken office. The only promise he seems to be really trying to fulfill is the wall, which is causing a number of other problems. With the help of social media, the status of these empty promises spread like fire. Coming from having a president like Obama to having Trump as president really makes the next generation of voters want to be more involved in politics, causing a shift in our government in the future.

    1. I agree that this current presidency has caused a lot more people to become involved in politics and these unfullfilled promises can definitely take a toll on society.

  6. I believe American’s expectations about presidency have exceeded because people want the best president. It is good for a president to promise something, but I feel they should be mindful of their promises so they can fulfill it or somewhat fulfill it. The website PolitiFact.com shows that Donald Trump has 600+ promises and around 400 of those or mostly lies to “pants on fire” lies. Comparing Barack Obama’s promises to Donald Trump’s promises, Barack Obama has made around 500+ promises and 400+ of those promises were true to half-true. I believe Barack Obama did set the expectations for future presidents higher as his promises fulfilled to lies ratio is more positive than Donald Trump’s ratio, and this is also considering that Obama’s ratio is positive after office while Trump’s ratio is negative and he still has months of presidency to go.

  7. In a way yes Americans have exceeded the expectations of the president but the president shouldn’t promise to do all these things for us citizens knowing he can’t fulfill them. A majority of Trumps promises that he made during his election were false! He forced the government to shut down because he wouldn’t do anything else until he got a wall built along the border of Mexico. In doing this, people had to go to work with out getting paid because they work for the airlines and people who receive a check from the government didn’t get it. Those people were unable to buy food for their families that month. The president puts his wants above the well-being of citizens in the US. We are not in a state of emergency and terrorist are not invading us from Mexico so the wall is unnecessary. He should be using the money he wants for the wall for education, to fix the potholes in the streets or maybe to pay off some of the debt that we have. The president should focus on things that are more important to the american people and not his own agenda.

    1. I believe that the expectation given by society to our president has exceeded what power one man or woman should have. President Trump has given many promises and or empty promises to today society. Exceeding power and trust/respect, President Trump has given many things to look into and 2 I believe that the expectation given by society to our president has exceeded what power one man or woman should have. President Trump has given many promises and or empty promises to today’s society. Exceeding power and trust/respect, President Trump has given many things to look into and to later Be counteracted by our next president. President Obama did raise the stakes and the expectations on his presidency.

  8. I strongly believe that Americans expectations about the presidency have actually downgraded. President Trump was not prepared to take on such a powerful role and does not have the same experience in politics as our past presidents have. Trump claims he wants to “Make America Great Again” but he has not fulfilled any of his promises that were mentioned at the presidential campaign. The only promise Trump wants fulfilled is the construction of the wall and because Democrats are against his decision he put through childish actions and previously shutdown the government. Former President, Barack Obama definitely raised the expectations on Trumps presidency because Obama was for the people and Trump is becoming more selfish with the decisions that he has been putting the people through.

    1. I agree with you because Trump has made no effort of actually trying to make this country greater/stronger instead he only cares for himself and what people think of him. He should be making decisions that would benefit everyone then maybe he won’t have as much haters. He needs to start thinking about how to be a better president and what he can do to make a difference and help people

  9. I believe that Trump gives many promises and gives proposition that will supposedly “help” but it all ends a lie. Also it ends up being something that is not necessary for the country. Everyone since the beginning the expectations for the president have not been there just because the president himself has not kept his word. So there is going to be no respect towards him if he doesn’t him respect himself. Obama did mark his words and expectations towards him were more high because he was capable of going thru with things and so there was more trust there.

  10. We Americans set high expectations for our President. We want someone who provides a sense of purpose , and who represents all the hopes and dreams of Americans. Yet the President must also pay close attention to practical matters, such as jobs , peace, and prosperity. The President must be tough, decisive, and competent. All these expectations that a President must have I do not think Trump has fulfilled any except trying to fulfill his own matter by trying to put up a wall that is totally unnecessary and I think it’s a waste of money that could go to better use but he only cares about his reputation and his fame instead of caring about the rest of us.
